DCVA Annual Membership Meeting

Villa Chanticleer has been reserved for our annual membership meeting, according to Charlee Schanzer, Events Committee Chair. The date of the meeting is set for March 15, 2009, and members are encouraged to enter this important date on their calendars.  The keynote speaker will be Kara Heckert, Executive Director of the Sotoyome Resource Conservation District, who will speak on creek restoration.

Other committees reporting included:

Legacy Fund

Schanzer reported on behalf of Richard Kagel, Committee Chair.  A new Legacy Fund account has been opened at Charles Schwab, and DCVA members have begun to fulfill the pledges that they made in 2008.  Schanzer reminded everyone that donations to this fund are now tax-deductible, and she encouraged members and directors to donate whatever they can afford.  A healthy Legacy Fund is essential to carrying out our mission “to protect and enhance the natural resources, rural aspects, and agricultural heritage of the Dry Creek Vally and its watershed while safeguarding the interests of the valley’s present and future community.”

Natural Resources

Judith Olney reported that the Clean Water Coalition (CWC) had sent a letter to the City of Healdsburg, opposing its recent proposal to dispose of treated wastewater on a 314-acre vineyard at the south end of Dry Creek Valley.  Olney also called attention to two Dry Creek water projects that the County is now considering (in addition to NSCARP’s waste water disposal plan).  Extensive reports on these proposed projects are available for downloading at the Water Agency’s website, www.scwa.ca.gov.

Membership

Ed Wilson announced that directors Gerry Pasterick and Edson Howard have agreed to co-chair the membership committee.  The committee also includes Lisa Henson, Marie Rist, and Charlee Schanzer.  The goal of this committee is to expand the membership of our association, and the committee would greatly appreciate help from our present membership. If you know of Dry Creek Valley friends or neighbors who are presently not members, please let them know we would welcome their membership, their energy, and their ideas.
