A NEW BEGINNING

In early 1974 there was no DCVA.  The Valley was mostly in prunes with some grapes.  Most of the folks who lived in the Valley were “old timers”.  Indeed, many families had farmed this Valley for generations.  There was no Warm Springs Dam.  In the summer time our children played in a creek which lived up to its name.  It was truly “DRY”.  The Dry Creek Valley was paradise then, as it is paradise now.

To the DCVA Membership:

It is hard to imagine that any of you have missed the ongoing concerns about the purity and availability of water not only in Dry Creek but throughout California. As you are also aware the Dry Creek Valley Association's mission is to protect and enhance our natural resources including its watershed. We are fortunate that among our membership there are a number of experts on environmental and water issues and that a contingent of those, including four with PhDs, are on our Natural Resource Committee. Despite busy careers they devote countless hours on our behalf ferreting out the details of environmental studies and the Sonoma County's Water Association's (SCWA) decisions affecting what comes through our faucets and soaks into our fields.

Since 1987 the DCVA has awarded over 70 scholarships ranging from $500 to $2500 per student. In 2007-08 recipients were Dry Creek residents, Porfiro Madrigal, Luke Wilson, Kayleigh Sharp, Celina Zuniga, Jillian Somers, Corina Zuniga and Beatris Aguado. Applications for the 2008-09 school year have already been submitted to the Community Foundation. Selection of recipients will occur in April with awards announced in mid May.
