Family and community bread baking is a local farm tradition worthy of revival. Not only is it tasty and nutritious and a satisfying form of artisanal expression, its fun. The
Preston wood-fired oven was fired up for local bread bakers in the valley for the annual picnic but Lou announced he will be providing his oven once a month for those who would like to bring their bread to bake in his special oven.

Attention Amateur Winemakers!
There just can’t be any stiffer competition among Zinfandels, worldwide, than that presented to our Taste Off competitors as they battle for what has been coined the coveted “Golden Bung Awards”. Only Non-Commercial, Dry Creek Valley Zins (75% or better) were included. Drinking-age picnic attendees were allowed to purchase flights that include two voting chips. Chips were then placed in jars corresponding to the voters’ favorite picks. At the close of tasting the chips were counted resulting in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes as well as the Best of Show.

 Not making it to France this year wasn't a problem for over 250 guests who gathered to feast on home grown vegetables, breads, chickens, and Dry Creek wines at DCVA's Annual Picnic and Potluck. Lou and Susan Preston’s farm and winery in the heart of Dry Creek Valley (at 9282 W. Dry Creek Road) provided a shaded and aesthetic backdrop that rivals any found in France for an event that never fails to provide residents of the valley an opportunity to reconnect with their neighbors and celebrate the beauty and bounty of the valley. Keeping with our green philosophy guests brought reusable plates/utensils and wine glasses. Waste was separated for composting and/or for a picnic surprise for local chickens and pigs.
Fun began at 4 p.m. with the 23rd annual Dry Creek Zin taste-off, this year featuring amateur zinfandel.
The second annual Bread bake-off was held at 10 a.m. to make sure the bread was ready to consume for dinner. YUM! Lou Preston announced plans to heat up his oven for home bread bakers once a month. The DCVA annual potluck and membership meeting was held Sunday, March 30, 2008. Members shared a meal and renewed friendships at Healdsburg Villa Chanticleer. Following Board elections and a vote to insure our articles of incorporation meet IRS requirements for a 501 (3)(c) status, former President and new head of the Clean Water Coalition, Fred Corson, told the crowd about two Sonoma County Water Association projects that could seriously disrupt Dry Creek itself, ground water, and our wells.
