Lou Preston and the NallesNot making it to France this year wasn't a problem for over 250 guests who gathered to feast on home grown vegetables, breads, chickens, and Dry Creek wines at DCVA's Annual Picnic and Potluck.  Lou and Susan Preston’s farm and winery in the heart of Dry Creek Valley (at 9282 W. Dry Creek Road) provided a shaded and aesthetic backdrop that rivals any found in France for an event that never fails to provide residents of  the valley an opportunity to reconnect with their neighbors and celebrate the beauty and bounty of the valley. Keeping with our green philosophy guests brought reusable plates/utensils and wine glasses.  Waste was separated for composting and/or for a picnic surprise for local chickens and pigs.

Fun began at 4 p.m. with the 23rd annual Dry Creek Zin taste-off, this year featuring amateur zinfandel.

The second annual Bread bake-off was held at 10 a.m. to make sure the bread was ready to consume for dinner. YUM!  Lou Preston announced plans to heat up his oven for home bread bakers once a month.  Check this website for additional information or call Lou at 433 3372 and tell him you are interested.

 Fun at the Picnic

Yael Bernier and Lisa Henson are due a great big thank you for their hard work in organizing an afternoon that young and old enjoyed.

Things to remember ...

  • The generous and fresh side dishes supplied with the freshest ingredients from Dry Creek's home kitchens and gardens
  • The cooperation of everyone in helping keep our event "green"
  • The produce from your over-abundant gardens that was shared with your neighbors
  • The creative flower arrangements on the tables---did you notice the bird nests and egg shells with walnuts in them?
  • Doug Lipton and “the boys” terrific job of providing background music that added to the festive atmosphere
  • Lou Preston’s bread and Laura Bartllozzi’s biscotti were treats to savor
  • The many volunteers that helped pull everything together, including the DCVA Board
